Hi:
We had the same problem, and found this:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/winserverprint/thread/adabe510-89ef-4856-935c-5cfbcecfe038
We applied this and now it is working.

32 bit fax print driver for W2008 x64 Fax Server
I have a 64 bit Windows Server 2008 Standard server configured with the fax
server role. I can't seem to figure out how to add x32 drivers so I can
"print" to the shared fax device on the server from my 32 bit XP clients
When I try to add the x32 drivers to the shared fax printer on the server,
I'm prompted to "please provide a printer driver". I've tried pointing to 32
bit XP media, 64 bit Server 2008 media, tried loading the driver from an XP
and Vista PC via the server share, but it doesn't accept any of these paths
From my XP PC, I can browse to the share on the server & connect the fax
print device. It appears on my XP PC as "Fax on %servername%". I can open
the fax console on my XP PC & see jobs that are in the outbox (submitted from
the server). When I attempt to create a new fax from the XP fax console, I
get an hourglass for a brief moment, and then nothing. If I try & print to
the fax "print" driver from the XP PC, I get nothing. I believe with the x32
W2K3 fax server I worked with a wizard came up asking for the fax number,
select a cover page, etc
I'm assuming this is because I don't have the x32 fax driver loaded on the
server. Any ideas on how I can add this
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Thanks, Alan. Can you explain what you mean by "do this"? I tried
connecting from a 32 bit vista client, and got similar results. I tried
adding the 32 bit fax driver from the vista client and from the server, but
it keeps prompting me provide a printer driver. I tried directing it to XP,
Vista, and Server 2008 32 and 64 bit media, but can't seem to locate the fax
driver it's looking for
Thanks again for your assistance

do this == install the driver.
do this == install the driver. I found out the UI detects the fax driver
name and hides it, that's why the driver is never listed. So I'm sure you
found the driver but the UI did not display the driver
The good news is there is a KB / white paper for this
The bad news is it is still in review
The good news for you, there are tools included in the OS to install the
driver without using the UI
the easiest way to install the driver is first copy the 32bit files to the
64bit serve
the 32bit fax files are located on a 32bit machine under
\windows\system32\driverstore\filerepository\prnms002.inf_?????? (?? is a
GUID reference)
there will be an i386 directory that also needs to be copied
on the x64 machine I copied the x86 fax files to C:\fax\x8
than in an elevated command windo
rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /ia /m "Microsoft Shared Fax Driver" /h
"x86" /v "Type 3 - User Mode" /f C:\fax\x86\prnms002.inf
printui /? will give you the options for accessing printui interfaces using
rundll32.
you can also use prndrvr.vbs in system32\printing_admin_scripts

Thanks for your reply, Alan. I tried your suggestion on the server, but I'm
afraid I still can't seem to add the driver on my XP client (by browsing to
the server & double clicking on the shared fax). I'm getting the following
error message:
"The server for the 'Microsoft Shared Fax Driver' printer does not have the
correct printer driver installed. If you want to search for the proper
driver, click OK. Otherwise, click Cancel and contact your network
administrator or original equipment manufacturer for the correct printer
driver."
Any other thoughts?

Did you get any error message?
here's another method.
Yes. 32-bit clients are supported for 64 bit WS08 Fax Server. As the
customer is saying, 32 bit drivers should be installed on the server.
The following is the procedure to install cross architecture drivers :
i. Right click on the Fax printer in "Printers" page and share the fax
printer.
ii. Click on 'Additional Drivers' and select the architecture for which
you want to install fax printer drivers for.
iii. It will prompt for a Setup information file (Inf file) .
iv. Copy the %windir%\system32\DriverStore\FileRepository\prnms002.inf_*
from a machine of the architecture which you are trying to install.
v. Select the prnms002.inf from the share just copied. (this is the fax
printer driver installation INF).
vi. This should successfully install the necessary cross architecture Fax
printer drivers in the server.
vii. Check for the presence of the installed architecture in
%windir%\system32\spool\drivers\ directory.
P.S - This is my own wording of the procedure. The official white-paper
containing these details will be released soon (Its currently in review by
the doc writers)

OK. That worked, in as much as the server now shows an x64 and x32 driver
loaded. I can connect to the Printer (fax) share from my x32 XP PC, but when
I try & print a document I get an hourglass for a moment, and then nothing
happens. This is the point where I would expect to see the send a fax wizard
prompt me for the recipients name, fax #, etc.

To review...I can add the shared fax printer on the XP client, but when I

the same thing from the fax server, the "new fax" screen is displayed & I'm
able to fax a document.

When I do, I get the Select Fax Printer dialog with the option to select
either the shared fax on my server or Fax on the local machine. Regardless
of which I select, nothing happens.
I can open the fax console via start/all
programs/accessories/communications/fax, but again when I try to create a new
fax, the Select Fax Printer appears, and then disappears once I click OK.
That's as far as I get.
There is a message in the lower right corner of the fax console that states
"some fax printers are inaccessible". Could this be a firewall issue?
