Hi All,

I have 6 computers used in a class room, they are all networked.
All 6 computers are used by students to learn basic computer skills.
1 Computer doubles as a printer server.
It has a printer installed to it that is shared to the network.
All 6 computers are running win xp pro with service pack 2.

Some of the computers fail to print, and some are working.
Yes I actually get a printing failed error in the printers and faxes window.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

steve.

Steve,

Some troubleshooting is in order.

Q1. Is it consistent which work and which don't?

Q2. Are any of the machines part of a domain?

Q3. How do the users log in? And under which account?

These are some steps you can take on the machines that do not work:

Q4. In the Printers and Faxes folder, use View/Details. What does it say in
the Name column?

Q5. Similarly, what does it say in the Status column.

Q6. What is the outcome of "Print Test Page" using the button on the General
page of the properties dialog?

Q7. What is the name on the General page of the properties dialog?

Q8. Is the name on the General page of the properties dialog enabled
(editable) or disabled (grayed out)?

Q9. Is the "File and Printer Sharing" exception on the Exceptions page of
the Windows Firewall control panel checked?

I am also thinking about the driver, but that's a whole other can of worms.
