We have a small office network printer (just an hp inkjet nothing fancy). It
is installed one one computer and for simplicity I decided to share the
printer instead of installing/configuring on each computer in my network.

Recently other computers will crash (or the applications actually) when they
try to print.
All computes on the network are xp pro sp3. Any ideas why something like
this would start to happen?

Do you think I will solve that problem by installing the printer on each
computer so they manage their own print jobs?

When the applications crash, this is an indication that the print driver is
corrupting the memory of the application.

Check and see if the print drivers installed on the clients are the same
version as the one installed on the machine sharing the printer. Windows
Update may have updated the client machines print drivers.
