Epson stylus color 740 printer problem

I have epson color 740 with Windows XP home . the set up has run well for 2 years. I recently installed a CD-RW drive and since then the printer does not function. I have checked and verified the printer and port settings but so far no success. I disconnected the printer and it passed an operating test so that means a computer problem. Hookup is by USB. I feel it is a driver problem but I am at a loss as to how to proceed . Any suggestions will ne most welcome Rex

Is the new CD-RW drive internal or an external USB drive?
